KLAMATH COUNTY PROSPECTIVE INITIATIVE TEXT
Banning Biomass Plant Development Within Klamath’s proposed EPA Non-attainment Zone
Shall Biomass Plant Development be prohibited within Klamath County’s proposed EPA Air Quality Non-attainment Zone?
A yes vote will prohibit Biomass Plant Development within Klamath EPA
Recommended Air Quality Non-Attainment Zone. The proposed EPA zone encompasses an area that has prevailing winds that can create a Biomass smoke plume with PM2.5 concentrations to carry towards our most populated area, Klamath Falls, and become entrapped causing public health hazards. The approximate zone boundaries are; south; California state line, East; past Merrill and Olene Gap, West; past Keno & Running Y, North; Wocus across to Hogs Back.
A no vote keeps the status quo would allow developers to continue to apply for conditional use permits within the proposed EPA nonattainment zone and other areas in the county approved for industrial development.
